Discover Tõrva parish and Mulgimaa!

Pikasilla is located in Tõrva parish, where the historic Mulgimaa also begins. Mulgimaa attracts the senses with its unique nature and past heritage.

Pikasilla and the recreation area located at the southern tip of Võrtsjärv are easily accessible and strategically located by the waterway (at the mouth of Väike-Emajõe).

Museum

Mulgi Attraction Centre

The newly opened Mulgi Experience Center is located in the former Sooglemäe farm complex in Mulgimaa. The center is a landmark and identity bearer of Mulgi, which is both an architectural attraction, a museum, a center for organizing events, a sales center for Mulgimaa’s information, products and services. The exposition and events there tell the story of the essence of Mulgi and the heritage culture of the Mulgi.

History

Barclay de Tolly mausoleum

Barclay de Tolly mausoleum is one of the 21 places in Southern Estonia worth discovering which are marked by a yellow National Geographic window; if you love culture and nature, a visit is highly recommended.

Field Marshal de Tolly, whose final resting place is in Estonia, is one of the most famous people related to Estonia and probably the greatest Russian military leader. The Russian commander who came from a Baltic aristocratic family with Scottish roots played an important part in the Napoleonic wars between 1812 and 1814.

Barclay de Tolly’s name has been related to Jõgeveste since 1791 when he married Helene Auguste Eleanore von Smitten and became the owner of the Jõgeveste manor.

Nature

Soontaga hiking trail

Soontaga hiking trail is located in Kiidjärve-Kooraste recreation area. The trail runs on the typical terrain of Southern Estonia in a mixed forest, reaching the banks of the Väike-Emajõgi. The walking trail runs in a circle. There are several information boards on the hiking trail that introduce the nature of the area. The water bodies on the hiking trail, which offer a beautiful sight, can be crossed with bridges. In addition to the hiking trail, there is a Soontaga camping area with campfires in the recreation area. If you happen to visit the hiking trail in season, you may find wild berries or mushrooms along the way.

Nature

Vooremägi

Vooremäe recreation area on the southern shore of lake Võrtsjärv is known for its hill fort from the beginning of the second millennium, to which several legends are also associated. It is a peaceful and relatively remote place, which is enjoyed precisely because of the natural beauty of the place and the great view from the top of the hill fort. The place is also known as an excellent bird watching area. In 2010, the roadway was reconstructed in cooperation with the Võrtsjärv Foundation and Puka parish and also a proper boat dock was built.

Animals

Kaasiku farm zoo

Have a great time in Hummuli at the Kaasiku farm zoo and meet different animals! Hereford beef cattle, Estonian horses and Shetland ponies, Cameroonian sheep and goats, rabbits of different breeds, dogs, cats, chinchillas, gerbils, panther chameleons, Yemeni chameleons, tortoises, ungulates, bearded dragons, leopard geckos, iguanas, king pythons, eyed lizards, ferrets, white-tailed deer live on the farm. You can also see there marmosets, frogs, American red squirrels, desert foxes, rose-breasted budgerigars, African pygmy hedgehogs and genets.

If you book in advance, you can ride horses and ponies and take a guided tour of the zoo with a companion.

Architecture

Mulgimaa wooden sculptures

In almost every corner of Mulgimaa, you can find beautiful wooden sculptures on the theme of Mulgi – a Mulgi man from Abja, a Mulgi woman from Helme. A sitting mulk welcomes visitors in Paistu, a dancing mulk couple in Karksi and a bagpipe player in Pikasilla. A couple of children will fascinate you in Mõisaküla, and even a whole family in Tarvastu.

In  Tõrva, the resort town of Mulgimaa, and the borough of Helme located next to it, there is plenty to see, discover and experience – Tõrva’s beautiful town central square, Tõrva Veemõnula Spa, Freedom Park and its sand sculptures, Tõrva cinema, Tõrva Church-Chamber Hall, Helme caves and the ruins of the order castle, Helme local history museum, Helme church ruins and more.
